The Phoenix Film Foundation was founded in 2000 as a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to support and develop the artistic appreciation, educational opportunities and growth of independent film within Arizona. The Foundation’s primary functions through its programs are to promote the exhibition of independent films and conduct educational programs that teach the art of independent filmmaking.
In addition to the education work performed by IFP Phoenix, the foundation operates the Phoenix Film Festival, the Phoenix Film Society, the International Horror and Sci-Fi Festival, and the Arizona Student Film Festival.
The Phoenix Film Festival
The Phoenix Film Festival has been named one of The 25 Coolest Film Festivals by MovieMaker Magazine and is a program of the 501c(3) non-profit Phoenix Film Foundation. The event was started in 2000 by independent filmmakers as an opportunity to showcase independent filmmaking and it has quickly become Arizona’s Largest Film Festival.
The Phoenix Film Festival annually screens over 150 films, holds amazing parties and provides filmmaking seminars to capacity audiences. Over 25,000 attendees enjoy the 8 day festival. The Festival takes place all in one convenient location and is held on 7 screens at the Harkins Scottsdale/101. All parties and workshops are held right on site so you don’t miss a thing.
The Phoenix Film Society
The Phoenix Film Society is the largest film membership organization in Phoenix! Members pay an annual membership fee that is also a tax-deductible donation to the Phoenix Film Foundation. Membership provides fantastic benefits including complimentary passes to at least one monthly film screening, invitations for special film events, invitations for Insider screenings, free passes to the annual Phoenix Film Festival, and special Discounts on Phoenix Film Festival Merchandise.
The International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival
The International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival happens in conjunction with the Phoenix Film Festival each year. The festival has a theatre dedicated to Horror and Sci-Fi films all opening weekend and screenings all week long. Attendees can catch premieres of short and feature horror and sci-fi films from all over the world, along with eclectic programming of older films, special guests and cult classics.
Plus, you can enjoy all the great parties and entertainment the Phoenix Film Festival is known for. Patrons are regularly able to screen awesome horror and sci-fi films alongside over a hundred other independent films. It’s the best of all worlds!
Arizona Student Film Festival
Started in 2006, The Arizona Student Film Festival provides grade school and and high school filmmakers a chance to screen their films on the big screen. Students from all over Arizona can compete to have their films selected to screen at the festival, and compete for prizes.
