IFP Phoenix at the 2019 Phoenix Film Festival

March 25, 2019 0 Comments News, Up Next by Aaron Kes

The 2019 Phoenix Film Festival starts Thursday, April 4th!
The 2019 Phoenix Film Festival will take place April 4th through April 14th and IFP Phoenix will be on hand with our yearly array of industry events and educational opportunities for local filmmakers. Read on below for everything we’re involved with at the festival.

IFP Phoenix Presents Industry Night at the Festival
The biggest industry networking night of the year takes place on Saturday at the festival this year. Not only have we changed the day it falls on this year, we’re also making it better for networking with your fellow filmmakers. You spoke and we listened, no live music this year, just a light playlist in the background! Come celebrate film in Arizona and meet some other fellow filmmakers.

When: Saturday, April 6th from 6:30pm to Midnight

Where: The Phoenix Film Festival Party Pavilion (tent next to the theatre)

Cost: Attendance is free!

Last year we had over 1200 people in attendance, rubbing elbows and making moves. Come on out and have fun with your community!

FREE Film Festival Educational Panels
Did you know that IFP Phoenix is putting on SEVEN different FREE seminars at the festival? Well, you do now.

Held on Saturday and Sunday and hosted by past film festival alumni, local filmmakers, and local media members, the seminars are a great way to gain knowledge and insight directly from filmmakers who have films playing in this year’s film festival. With topics covering subjects like screenwriting, directing, acting, diversity, docs, AZ films, and short filmmaking, there is surely something for everyone!

Middle School/High School Education Outreach
Ever wondered what goes into making a movie? Ever wanted to be part of the action? The Phoenix Film Festival Education Outreach Program is a great place to start! Designed specifically for middle and high school students, this weeklong program during the Phoenix Film Festival allows you to join other students in creating a film from script to screen one day at a time.

Each day different aspects of filmmaking will be explored with various Film Industry Professionals. From film lovers to filmmakers, and from writers to actors, these seminars are a great way to complement your school’s current curriculum with real world exploration and application.

Kids’ Day
IFP Phoenix helps put together Kids’ Day at the festival! Kids’ Day is a FREE event on Saturday, April 6th from 9am to 2pm. It’s a great way for children of all ages to come out and experience the festival. They can select from a series of hands-on activity stations focusing on different aspects of film production and geared to various age and ability levels.

From coloring black line reproductions of the festival poster for the youngest to acting and creating their own short films for the oldest, kids will love this action-packed morning.  Everyone will get a kick out of the soundtrack station, where they create a musical soundtrack to a fun film, and the screenwriting station, where they write a script “Mad Lib” style.

Stations are age-appropriate and run the full gamut of the filmmaking process.

Movies, Movies, MOVIES!
As with every year, the Phoenix Film Festival is a wonderful place to discover your new favorite film. We have word premiere night Friday night and have also added three shorts programs to celebrate diversity in filmmakers. We have Latino American directed shorts, African American directed shorts, and Native American directed shorts. Plus, the second weekend of films will largely dedicated to AZ films with tons of AZ shorts and three AZ feature films! In addition, the festival offers parties, silent auctions for cool prizes, and tons more. It’s truly a great event and a fitting celebration of film. Show up and get involved.
