For one month only, we’re doing things a bit differently for Filmmaker Fusion and we’re holding it at a DIFFERENT LOCATION. This month, we’re forgoing our normal Q&A panels and sticking to a night of mingling and networking…and we’re holding it at the Phoenix Film Foundation office. We’ll even provide some snacks and refreshments.
On November 3rd, we held our Break Out Film Challenge screening at Harkins 101 Scottsdale. It was a great night for local film! Here is the full list of winners from the event:
Unfortunately, do to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel November’s edition of Filmmaker Fusion. We are so sorry about this and hope to be back on December 21st with the topic of “Know Your Rights.” A guide to your rights on set.
The 2016 Break Out Film Challenge is now open for registration!!
What is it?
Our break out film challenge is designed to get our filmmakers out into the world! We give away over 20 free film festival submissions every year to the winners!
The Beat the Clock 48 Hour Film Challenge is back and the teams have finished their films! We had 23 teams kick off on Friday, July 15th and weve got 18 new films to screen. Join us at Harkins Scottsdale 101 Theatre on Thursday, August 4th at 7pm. Well be screening all of the completed films and presenting the awards to the winning films and filmmakers.
Sun Studios is hosting the kickoff and also offering up use of their space to teams competing in the 48 hour Beat the Clock Challenge!
As you may know, our annual 48 hour Beat the Clock Challenge is open for registration! As you may also know, Sun Studios is a new production facility in town. Well, they’d like to get to know you by letting you work in their space! FREE! Check out the details from Sun Studios below. In addition to that, our kickoff will now be held at their facility as well. Win win!
From the offices of Jon Bonnell and Sun Studios:
Sun Studios of Arizona is going to stay up all night with you. The facility will be open from 10pm Friday, July 15th, until midnight Saturday, July 16th (26 hours) for everyone to use, free of charge. Check out the website and our virtual online tours to get an idea of the spaces available to you: sound stage, green screen cyc, theater, classroom, coWorking space, office space, and even a bar. Heck, there’s also truss and a portable stage. Let your imaginations run wild. Schedule a tour before if you want to get an idea of the space you’ll have.
In addition to this Sun Studios is going to award a free screening in their 150 seat theater to one talented film maker that uses their space. A $300 value. Space will be available on a first come, first served basis, but we’ll try to help each team move through the spaces as quickly as possible so everyone gets a chance. Only stipulation? You must use our logo in the credits of your film and give us the rights to use behind the scenes footage and a small clip from your film. Contact Jon Bonnell, General Manager of Sun Studios of Arizona, to see the space. jbonnell@sunstudiosaz.com or 480-565-7040. Visit Sun Studios of Arizona online at http://www.sunstudiosaz.com

“Directing Docs” will feature local experts discussing how to create compelling documentaries. Find out answers to questions like:
- “How do you know a story will end up being with the time investment?”
- “How do you approach paring down all that footage?”
- “How do you prepare to be there for the moment?”
As some of you heard at last week’s challenge screening, TJ Houle is permanently relocating to California to pursue new career and personal challenges and will no longer be serving IFP Phoenix. We can’t tell you how much she will be missed and how much we’ve appreciated everything she’s done for IFP Phoenix in her three years as co-program director. Along with Aaron, TJ stepped in and helped stabilize and grow the organization amid a lot of turnover and shaped what it is today. We know she’ll do great things and California and our loss is their gain. Thank you for everything, TJ!
