Elmer J. Howard of Thrive Productions has won the prestigious Award of Recognition from The Best Shorts Film Competition. The award was given for Elmer’s based-on-real-events Gay short film “Loving Martin”. “Loving Martin” is a melancholic tale of love and loss. He also won the Award of Merit for Directing, Producing, and Production Design in the Southern Shorts Awards.
“’Loving Martin’ is a real-life film. It doesn’t steer away from the flaws of it’s characters and paints life for what it is sometimes. Messy. Hard, painful, and messy. With some excellent performances within it’s short length, this is a title I would recommend to a lot of my friends. A good well-rounded short film. No question about that.” ~ ReelRomp

IFP Phoenix is welcoming a new Film Challenge Director – David Miller!
A born and raised native of Phoenix, AZ, David A Miller has been making films since about 2003. He quickly decided his passion in life is specifically in the video editing field along with creating funny shorts to make himself laugh.
After getting his AA degree in Motion Picture Television: Video Editing from Scottsdale Community College, David started making commercial videos and participating in various film challenges. He cut his teeth on live event video including filming and editing live acoustic performances of music groups for a local radio station, VitaminWater, and other clients.
Participating in many many film challenges, and even winning a few awards over the years, David his excited to put together some great challenges for IFP Phoenix and the film community.
Please come out and say hi to David at Industry Night at the 2018 Phoenix Film Festival on Friday, April 6th!
IFP Phoenix is welcoming a new host for Filmmaker Fusion – Tyler Riggs!
A native of Michigan, Riggs moved to Phoenix in the mid-aughts to get the hell away from 9 months of crap weather. He first got bit by the writing bug doing satirical recaps of his team’s flag football games. What started as an excuse to mock his friends lack of athletic ability quickly snowballed into a passion for storytelling.
Desperate for a way to channel his creative energy, Riggs got his first start in filmmaking two years ago with the IFP Breakout Challenge. His passion for film and learning (and the fact that everyone we asked before him said no) made him a perfect fit as the new host for the Filmmaker Fusion event.
We are really excited to welcome him aboard as this will free up Aaron (sorry to disappoint you, he’s not going anywhere) to bring more and more exciting things for local filmmakers!
Please come out and say hi during our first Filmmaker Fusion with Tyler as host Wednesday, December 20th, 2017 from 7-9pm at Scottsdale Community College.
