Beat the Clock Short Film Challenge

With three different 48-Hour challenges happening throughout the year (July, November, January) the Beat the Clock Short Film challenge offers filmmakers a year-round opportunity to work on their craft.  The top five films and the audience favorite from each round advance to the spring finals, which is held at the Phoenix Film Festival.

The best film becomes an automatic selection to the next year’s Phoenix Film Festival and the filmmaker wins $1000.  Prizes are also given for Best Acting, Directing, Cinematography, Editing and Writing.   Individual round cash prizes are $250 for 1st place, $75 for 2nd place and $50 for 3rd place.  The team that scores the most points throughout the year will win Best 48-Hour Team and $500.

SCREENWRITERS GROUP PROGRAMS

The IFP/PHX Screenwriters Group provides a creative, supportive and fun environment for local screenwriters to interact, learn and develop their craft.

Monthly Meeting

The Screenwriters Group meets the first Monday of every month to discuss writers' scripts, critique work and share information on networking connections. They encourage the development of ideas and the completion of scripts that are ready to enter the marketplace.

Gain information about industry contacts, tools of the trade, conferences, and screenplay competitions.

Weekly Table Reads

Table reads are every Wednesday night from 7-9 pm at Borders Books in Mesa. Members bring 10-pages of their work to the table read to have it read aloud by fellow members, who then discuss it.  This format is a great opportunity to get a feel for the sound of the dialogue and the overall flow of the script.

Monthly Scene Challenge

IFP/PHX Screenwriters Group runs a monthly scene challenge. Each month new criteria are posted for this short scene challenge. Criteria can run the gamut from genre to characters to props and even length. Most entries are limited to five pages. All entries are judged by their peers and a winner announced each month.
